Mr. Coatney brings more than 30 years of experience in the power generation and energy delivery sectors to his role at Catalyst.

Prior to joining the company, Mr. Coatney was the manager of project controls at Duke Energy in Plainfield, Ind. where he oversaw the systemization of project management and controls tools and processes throughout the Midwest and Carolinas. Mr. Coatney was nominated for a national CIO Magazine award in 2008 for management of Duke Energy’s enterprise-wide standardization on Primavera V6.2 project management software and migration of mission-critical Citrix servers to a secured facility. He was consequently asked by Primavera to present his best-practices case at their 25th annual conference where Duke Energy was the winner of Primavera's Excellence Award.

Mr. Coatney began his career in the operations department of Public Service Indiana as a generation station general mechanic and advanced to senior chemical operator of FGD systems. Mr. Coatney quickly rose through the ranks to become a southern division control center manager of distribution operations and, later, system control center operator in Plainfield in charge of generation dispatch, daily/hourly sales, and transmission operations for the northern service territory in Indiana for Cinergy.

Later, Mr. Coatney was senior project manager and supervisor of project controls for Cinergy in Plainfield, Ind. and Cincinnati, Ohio before its merger with Duke in 2006. In that role, he lead the CPCRI process change, managed over 500 projects annually, and oversaw a capital budget of $70 million to deliver less than one percent budget variance and a 98 percent on-time completion rate for five years in a row. He later repeated that success at Duke with over 1,100 in-flight projects annually, an annual budget in excess of $150 million dollars, and a 10-year capital portfolio valued in excess of $1 billion dollars.

Throughout his career, Mr. Coatney has been a change agent and visionary leader - sponsoring continuous improvement initiatives for portfolio/project management and leading the development of tools to support the planning and estimating, scheduling and cost reporting for capital projects that support Optimized Portfolio Management. Today, he specializes in helping forward-thinking clients realize an optimized portfolio based on value and risk. His drive to optimize capital projects and to tie them to the capital portfolio has lead to significant cost savings and unmatched efficiency for top energy producers.
